The Inspiration Story
We took inspiration from a Smayusta (Nuxalk creation story) of two brothers who were being prepared by the creator above to be sent to the earth. Creator told the two brothers that their journey would send them to opposite sides of the earth, one would go towards the sunrise and one to the sunset. Creator held out two tools, the axe and the book, he told the eldest brother to choose first. The eldest brother chose the axe and the younger brother took the book. As the brothers turned to bid each other farewell, they gazed upon each other and they looked different and spoke different languages. Creator then spoke to their hearts, telling them that the time and distance of their journey will cause them to become different people, and when they meet again they will have conflict. Creator told the brothers that it isn't until they recognize the one true language of humanity, that they can then come together and share their knowledge and ideas and the story of humanity in its modern age can now begin.
